Apply your research skills to help transform livestock farming into more sustainable, regenerative systems across Europe. This role sits within GROUNDWORK, a flagship Horizon Europe project under the EU Soil Mission, bringing together researchers, farmers, universities, and technology developers to advance regenerative livestock systems and soil health.  You will work within the Swedish Living Lab, co-led by SLU and Svensk Kolinlagring, collaborating closely with farmers in southern Sweden to test innovative regenerative grazing and soil management practices. The role combines hands-on field research with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and broader sustainability analysis, with strong links to Living Labs across Europe.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a large, interdisciplinary, and international consortium, while engaging directly with farming communities and contributing to impactful, practice-relevant research.

Within this role you will:

  • Design and carry out on-farm measurements of soil health, biodiversity, and management outcomes in livestock systems.
  • Integrate field data into LCA and sustainability assessments.
  • Benchmark Swedish Living Lab results with other Living Labs across Europe.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications and project reports.
  • Communicate findings to both research and practitioner audiences.
  • Coordinate field activities and contribute to remote collaboration across the GROUNDWORK consortium.

You will have:

  • A PhD in agroecology, environmental science, agricultural systems, or a related field.
  • Proven experience applying Life Cycle Assessment to agricultural systems.
  • Experience with field data collection in livestock or mixed farming systems.
  • A track record of publishing scientific research.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in transdisciplinary or participatory research.

Desirable skills include:

  • Experience with farmer engagement and Living Lab approaches.
  • Use of LCA software (e.g. SimaPro, OpenLCA).
  • Skills in R or Python for data analysis.
  • Experience with soil and/or biodiversity monitoring and GIS.

The post is based at SLU’s Alnarp Campus, with field activities in southern Sweden. It is a full-time (100%), indefinite-term position (with possible probation), starting March 2026 or as agreed.
