The Society's aim is to enhance the understanding of animal sciences and to promote its integration into economic and ethical systems. It is committed to improving the productivity and welfare of farm animals and the quality and safety of food, whilst protecting the environment. To achieve this the Society runs conferences, workshops and meetings for those interested in animal science to meet and exchange information, ideas and experiences. It also publishes, in collaboration with EAAP and INRA, the monthly journal ANIMAL, an international journal of animal bioscience.
The Society has around 1,000 members, with a third from overseas, including developing countries. The members come from research, education, advisory work, industry and farming backgrounds with a wide range of interests.
